Which Cotton Fabric Is Best For Bedding?

Vải cotton nào tốt nhất cho chăn ga gối?

There are countless types of fabrics called cotton on the market. In this article, we only share information about 2 types of cotton fabrics commonly used to make bedding: cotton percale and cotton sateen. This name refers to the difference in the way the fabric is woven.

Cotton percale

Percale is a fabric made with a plain or basket weave, one thread over one thread under, a weaving method that has been used for hundreds of years. This weave gives the fabric its durability, matte finish, and crisp feel. To be called percale, the fabric must have a thread count of 180 or more per square inch.
Percale is probably the fabric you've slept in since you were a child, and is almost certainly something you'll find in most stores. It's a lightweight, sturdy weave that creates breathable, cool, crisp sheets – perfect all year round.

Cotton Sateen

This type has quality levels from 30s, 40s - 200TC, 60s - 300TC and 80s - 500TC ( highest quality ). After experiencing and testing many products, many different types of cotton as well as fabric density, we found that cotton sateen at 300TC is the most suitable choice for high-end bedding lines, the 60s fabric line has the same good quality as 80s but at a price more suitable for the majority of consumers who need high-end products.

Cotton sateen is a fabric with a silky smooth surface, the higher the thread count, the more durable the fabric. Cotton sateen is also the only fabric that has the advantages of durability and good color retention of cotton but is extremely smooth due to the advantages of the weaving method, in addition, it is less wrinkled than cotton percale or other common cottons.

60s is a fabric woven from 60s cotton yarns with 174 warp threads and 126 weft threads per square inch to create a 300TC fabric. This is also the type that La Vie En Rose trusts to use for the brand's high-end bedding products.

Advantage:

- The fabric surface is soft and smooth due to the thick fabric density, woven in the same way as satin fabric.

- Long fabric fibers, few seams, thinly brushed fabric fibers so light

- Cotton has the advantage of keeping color well and not fading. Printed patterns have bright colors.

- Cotton keeps the body warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing the body from retaining sweat, which is why you don't get cold in winter when sweat evaporates on the skin and doesn't escape.

However, many people still confuse cotton sateen with cotton satin.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SATEEN AND SATIN?

To avoid confusion between the names “SATEEN” and “SATIN” which basically sound the same when read, but in fact these two fabrics are woven differently and the ingredients that make up the fabric are also different.

As anyone who has shopped for bed sheets can tell you, the difference between the two is very subtle, and it's almost impossible to tell the difference unless you're an expert or work with fabrics.

Basically: Cotton Sateen is woven from 100% cotton. Satin on the other hand is mostly woven from polyester.

DIFFERENCES IN WEAVING

The first thing is that the two nouns “sateen” or “satin” do not refer to the type of yarn that is woven into the fabric, but are actually technical terms for the weaving method. The typical weaving method that both of these weaving methods use is the number of yarns 4-1 instead of 1-1 like the traditional weaving method. This weaving method maximizes the appearance of the fabric fibers on the top of the fabric, creating a characteristic fabric surface that is shiny, luxurious, but very soft, especially with a certain shine on the fabric surface.

DIFFERENT WEAVES BETWEEN SATEEN AND SATIN

Although the surface of these two fabrics is quite similar, the composition of the fabric fibers is different. In the past, satin was always made from 100% silk, but nowadays, because of the high cost and rarity of raw materials, satin is almost always produced with nylon and polyester, or in other words, artificial fibers, to achieve durability, shine, and low cost. The characteristics of satin and silk in terms of appearance and feel when used are similar, only satin will not have the same airiness as 100% silk.

SATEEN, made entirely from natural cotton or cotton. Isn't it amazing that cotton fibers can produce such smooth and shiny fabric products? Normally, when weaving this fabric, the cotton fibers are combed and polished before weaving to achieve the smoothness and shine of silk. Because SATEEN is made from cotton, a durable and strong fiber, if you need to use it for products that require sewing or embroidery, SATEEN is the fabric to use. And this is also the reason why we choose SATEEN to sew bedding.

SATEEN, made entirely from natural cotton. It's amazing how cotton fibers can produce such smooth and shiny fabric.

In addition, SATEEN can be washed in a washing machine without worrying about damage. And finally, SATEEN can be easily dyed and bleached, as well as producing printed fabric products with sharpness and high consistency.
