11 Tips To Make A Small Room Feel Larger

11 mẹo để căn phòng nhỏ có cảm giác rộng hơn

1. Trick the eye with paint

Painting the ceiling and baseboards or skirting boards the same colour as the walls will blur the edges, creating the illusion of more space. If you’re feeling brave, wallpapering the ceiling will draw attention to it and create a really fun little focal point too!

2. Expand your perspective

Choose the largest rug you can afford, and cover the entire floor area of the room with furniture. This will automatically give your eyes a wider perspective, creating the illusion of space.

3. Leave space on shelves

When decorating your home with accessories, you don't have to fill every inch of space in your home. Leaving some areas empty will create a sense of space and avoid looking cluttered. For example, don't fill every inch of your shelves. Leaving empty spaces will create what is known as 'negative space'.

4. Choose simple furniture

Furniture like sofas and cabinets with legs will allow you to see more of the floor and create the illusion of space. You should also stay away from large, ‘bulky’ pieces of furniture that take up a lot of space. Instead, opt for a few simple pieces to free up that all important floor space.

5. Clean regularly

It's funny how quickly you can 'fill up' a house, but do you really need all the stuff you've accumulated over the years? Regular cleaning can help you use your space as efficiently as possible.

6. Each item needs its own fixed place.

Each item needs its own dedicated storage place such as a drawer/box/basket, not 'on the floor' or on top of a shoe cabinet in the corner of the hallway.
This makes keeping surfaces tidy a lot easier, again creating the feeling of more space.

7. Neutral colors

Maximizing the light in your home is a surefire way to trick the eye into thinking a space is larger than it actually is. Use light colors and neutral tones throughout your interior. However, you can always add a pop of color to a room as an accent by using accessories.

8. Let the light in

Heavy curtains make a room appear smaller, so choose light, airy curtains that don't block out natural light - I used sheer curtains in both of our bedrooms.

9. Use mirrors to create space advantage

If your home already has the advantage of natural light, you can also take advantage of placing mirrors in suitable locations. For example, placing a mirror opposite a window will help reflect light around the room, and if the window has a plant, you can inadvertently bring more green space into the house. Not only that, a mirror naturally creates a sense of more space - so equip one in every room!

10. Key storage

Have room to store things properly - too much clutter can make a large room feel small.

Cute baskets can be used to store things under the bed/on top of the wardrobe/in awkward corners. Kitchen feeling cluttered? Why not use glass jars and boxes to store your dry foods, freeing up valuable space and creating a mini pantry in one of your cupboards?

11. You can also 'double' up on cabinet space - we keep all our papers and documents in filing cabinets, making use of every available space for smart storage and creating more free space in the home.
